Under general supervision, this position is responsible for monitoring, sampling, analyzing, and monitoring source water quality in the Chickahominy River, city-owned reservoirs and their tributaries, and groundwater wells. This position is also responsible for operating and maintaining the water pumping stations, raw water, transmission pipeline, and groundwater treatment and distribution systems. Reports to the Water Treatment Station Supervisor. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE • Physical Sciences - General knowledge of chemistry, biology, or limnology in order to make basic observations concerning the condition of the raw water (Ex. excessive algae growth) and the significance of test results. Some knowledge of the geography, location, and relationship of the reservoirs and river networks that supply raw water to Waterworks treatment plants. • Boating - Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to the operation, tools and equipment associated with an outboard powered boat. • Pump Station Facilities – Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures utilized in the operation of raw water pumping station facilities, and in the treatment, pumping, and distribution of groundwater in a community water system. • Safety - Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to the operation of water pump stations, well systems, and associated pipelines.
