About the Role

Merit is seeking an Office Manager to join our People Ops team. You will ensure that our office runs smoothly every day, promote and cultivate our company culture, and manage vendors and other resources to support any construction/improvements to the office. You will help manage office and company events. Additionally, you will assist with various People Operations initiatives as needed. We are looking for someone who is a master at organization and multitasking, and is proactive and professional. 

Merit is a startup environment where you will be expected to roll up your sleeves, take initiative, and get creative about finding solutions to challenges. This is a full-time position based in Millbrae, CA (Merit Headquarters).

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all new construction, repairs, and improvements needed in the office
  • Build on the network of trusted contractors & source new contractors when needed
  • Run office culture programs (ex: Cake Day, Friday Food)
  • Build on the culture programs already in place to maintain a fun, friendly environment
  • Assist with the rolling out of new worksites and maintenance of our office culture throughout various sites
  • Manage custodial staff to keep units clean and projects on track
  • Manage Employee requests.
  • Decorate office for seasonal/ holiday events
  • Be one of the first points of contact for employee questions, directing to appropriate team member/s
  • Assist with set up/ tear down of onsite events
  • Storage unit runs to retrieve/ return items, as well as over site of Storage unit and its inventory
  • Maintain IT closet and IT stocking needs
  • Keep snacks and office supplies stocked, tracking employee allergies and food preferences for optimal employee experience
  • Assist other departments as needed
  • Receive all inbound packages


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good phone skills
  • Self-starting but able to work within a team
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Detail-oriented and ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
  • AA degree

Bonus Points

  • Previous office manager experience and/or experience in educational or extra curricular activity management (e.g. summer camps)
  • Degree in Office Management or Organizational Management 
  • A bit weird ☺
