The Role

Merit is seeking a Help Desk & IT Engineer to join our Engineering team in an effort to support our other departments and employees. Your role is to support maintaining a first-class work environment, ensuring our technology is properly deployed & updated and troubleshooting issues as they arrive. An ideal candidate is a self starting multitasker who is able to work independently on day-to-day tasks and collaboratively on special jobs as they arise.

Merit is a start-up environment where you’ll be expected to roll-up your sleeves and work collaboratively with the People Ops team and other cross-functional partners. This is a full-time position based at our headquarters in Millbrae.


Key Responsibilities

  • Tag all new technology assets and track requisitions and returns of assets
  • Maintain inventory of all technology assets and accessories
  • Standardize all hardware
  • Troubleshoot issues with security system (ADT + Brivo)
  • Technical support for all computers, iPads, etc.
  • Set up accounts on all new iPads, etc for all departments
  • Perform software and anti-virus updates, spyware scan & removal, & patch mgmt
  • Determine correct parts for workstations and laptops
  • Manage office Wifi router and all networked devices (printers, etc.)
  • Check router logs, perform monitoring/ capacity planning
  • Monitor DSU/TSU, switches, hubs and internet connectivity, and make sure everything is operational
  • Check firewall logs
  • Perform permissions and file system mgmt
  • Set up new users, including login restrictions, passwords, security, and applications
  • Set up and change security for users and applications
  • Ensure Microsoft Office applications are functioning as designed
  • Ensure line of business applications are functioning as designed
  • Manage the following vendor relationships: internet + printer/copier



  • 2+ years experience in IT position; this is an intermediate to advanced position, and not for entry level technicians
  • Broad knowledge of Mac based computers both in hardware and software
  • Very security conscious.
  • Networking knowledge of DHCP, static IP assignment, routing, DNS as well as troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe applications and configuration and customization options
  • Independent research and problem solving skills
  • Courteous, patient demeanor
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs
