The Role

We are looking for an excellent and experienced Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) to help us share our story with the world, oversee all marketing operations of the company, and develop our marketing strategy and vision. You will oversee a team of enthusiastic marketing professionals and will direct our marketing efforts towards great success. An excellent CMO is passionate for their profession and have great knowledge for all things marketing. This role will report directly to our CEO and co-founder.

Merit is a startup environment where you will be expected to roll up your sleeves, take initiative, and get creative about finding solutions to challenges. This is a full-time position based in Millbrae, CA.


The Responsibilities

  • Define marketing strategies to support Merit’s overall activities and objectives.
  • Develop and execute a marketing plan focused on driving interest and adoption among B2G (business-to-government) partners, while also supporting B2B and end-consumer adoption.
  • Plan and organize marketing functions and operations (product marketing, branding, communications, events, etc.), and ensure they project the company’s unique voice.
  • Design and coordinate promotional campaigns, PR activities, and other marketing efforts across traditional and digital channels.
  • Create a solid network of strategic partnerships.
  • Be responsible for the vision, strategy, budget, and execution of all marketing initiatives.
  • Optimize a growing brand and performance marketing budget across digital and traditional channels, ensuring the right media mix, attribution and efficacy.
  • Oversee and inspire the creation of campaigns that tell powerful stories that lead to awareness of, alignment with, and affinity for Merit’s vision.
  • Lead Growth, Brand, Creative, and Comms teams to ensure consistent and flawless execution of the Merit brand using an omnichannel approach.
  • Work across the organization, especially with product, engineering, and data teams, to drive scale and efficiency with the smart application of technology.
  • Drive the vision for team growth and create an efficient organizational structure, providing leadership, inspiration and coaching to all teammates.


  • BS/BA degree, MBA preferred
  • Must have experience in marketing to government (state or federal)
  • 15+ years experience of integrated marketing experience
  • 8+ years experience in leadership role
  • Experience building and scaling teams, budgets, tools, and programs
  • Experienced in demonstrating insights and data to drive decision-making
  • Demonstrated ability to message, position, and present information for maximum impact and influence
  • Ability to work across various levels of the organization while building trust and fostering collaboration
  • Solid experience handling complex projects and budgets
  • Ability to work well under pressure, with tight deadlines, and cope with changes
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Excellent communicator
  • Desire to consistently enhance marketing programs, bringing new ideas to the table – both strategic and executional
  • Travel: if required
